Ontario’s Online Gaming Market Hits New High in January

According to figures released today by iGaming Ontario, handle in the regulated igaming sector in Ontario reached a record high in January, reaching CAD $9.520 billion.

Ontario is about to commemorate its fourth anniversary.
That figure reflects a significant increase from the $7.845 billion the market produced in January 2025 and was higher than the record $9.501 billion in total cash wagers the market witnessed for December.

In April 2022, the Ontario-regulated online gaming market launched.The first month's total cash wagers came to $1.079 billion.

With 48 licensed operators and 82 operational websites, this industry is among the most competitive and robust regulated online gaming marketplaces worldwide.It was listed as one of the top five gambling jurisdictions in North America in just its first year.

 

There are now 48 licensed operators

January's non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR) was $401.5 million, down 6% from the previous month. With $425.4 million in income, Ontario set a record in December.

The average revenue per active player account was $303, a 9% decrease from the previous month, but active player accounts increased 4% to 1,326.

With $8.183 billion in total cash wagers, the casino's market share was 86%, down 1% from December. In December, the casino reached $8.270 billion, the highest amount in the nearly four years that the market has been operational.

 

The market share of sports betting is 12%

With $1.180 billion in cash wagers, sports betting accounted for 12% of the market, up 8% from the previous month. With $156 million in cash wagers, P2P poker had a 2% market share and an 11% monthly rise.

In terms of NAGGR by product category, online casinos received $308.9 million, a 4% drop from December and a 77% market share; sports betting received $86.7 million, a 12% month-over-month decline and a 22% market share; and P2P poker received $5.9 million, a 2% month-over-month increase and a 1% market share.

In November, sports betting brought in a record $102 million, and in December, it brought in $99.1 million. The Ontario sports betting sector generated $92 million in revenue in January 2025, a 133% increase from the previous month.

Revenue from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation's Proline online casino and sports betting platform is not included in those figures. On March 31, 2026, the OLG announces its fiscal year financial data.
