Donald Trump May Want to Open ‘Casino’ in Greenland, John Bolton Claims

In a recent interview, veteran foreign policy expert John Bolton suggested that President-Elect Donald Trump might be interested in establishing a casino on Greenland if the U.S. were to obtain the large northern Atlantic island.

Bolton, who had a short tenure as Trump’s national security advisor in his first term, expressed the remark in a recent interview with The Free Press.

“He wants to put a Trump casino in Nuuk,” Bolton said about the island’s capital city.

"Trump Nuuk, how is that for posterity,” Bolton responded to a reporter in what could have been Bolton thinking out loud. “Trump Nuuk. A Trump Tower, too.”

“I think he did a tweet on Greenland’s real estate,” Bolton added. “I’m serious, I think he did.”

Since 2019, Trump has frequently suggested that the U.S. ought to purchase Greenland from Denmark. Since his reelection in November, Trump has raised the possibility once more.

Important for U.S. Security

"For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,” Trump said in a recent tweet.

In the Free Press interview, Bolton mentioned that “Greenland is closely linked to our security for numerous reasons and has been evident since World War II, following the downfall of the Danish government, to safeguard the North Atlantic convoys and our interests against the Nazi danger.”

After World War II, the United States established an Air Force base in Thule, Greenland — now known as the Pituffik Space Base.

"Given Greenland’s geographic proximity to the United States, and everything else I’ve stated, it’s obviously a strategic interest,” Bolton said. Greenland is part of “the North American landmass, and that makes it a vital security interest for the United States.”

During his tenure as Trump's national security advisor, Bolton explored preliminary options for the U.S. to acquire Greenland, but "they went nowhere, since Trump discussed everything openly, causing the entire matter to implode," Bolton remembered.

In the future, Bolton suggested that Trump should “stop talking” and “consider some private negotiations” if he wants the U.S. to acquire Greenland.

Bolton remarked that if he refers to the Danish prime minister as “nasty” again, it likely won’t result in a positive outcome.

“The Danish prime minister said it was absurd, which may have been produced by Trump saying something public,” Bolton said.

The previous suggestions resulted in numerous jokes on American television, with host Conan O’Brien conducting a series of episodes from Greenland where he discussed the concept with locals.

The name Trump is presently associated with various resorts or hotels that are owned and managed by the Trump Organization. It encompasses the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas, where an explosion occurred on New Year’s Day.

Is Trump Genuine?

Recently, Trump proposed that the U.S. should regain control of the Panama Canal and possibly incorporate Canada into the United States. The Panama Canal was previously under U.S. control. Furthermore, under President Abraham Lincoln's administration, Secretary of State William Seward suggested that the U.S. acquire either all or a portion of Canada.

When questioned regarding Trump’s ideas on Panama and Canada, Bolton, a former U.N. ambassador, told the Free Press, “Well, with Trump, it’s hard to tell what’s serious and what isn’t.”
